Kathy Gysin was born in Upland and has lived in Southern California for most of her life. Her father was an amateur artist and she began to paint and draw at an early age. Although she was trained and worked as a teacher for thirtyyears, she continued to take art classes, exploring oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting, as well as sculpting. Most of her early work was realistic, done inwatercolor, using native colors.
Kathy developed a love of California scenery, taking photographs and collecting memories as she traveled up and down the state. Many of her paintings feature scenes of the central coast of California with rolling, golden hills, majestic oak trees, and vineyards. Within the last few years she has begun to experiment with vibrant colors and more whimsical subjects. Besides art classes at San Diego State University and Chaffey College, Kathy has studied under many noted local artists.
She has shown and sold at the Jameson Gallery in Sierra Madre, participated in the Claremont Art Walk, and is now exhibiting and selling her work at Gallery SOHO in Montclair Place.
Kathy is a member of four local art associations and has won awards for her work.
