Antoinette “Toni” Stroman works as a studio artist at Upland Art Center, one of the progressive studios of the Tierra del Sol Foundation. A unique art program, founded on the proposition that human potential for creativity and artistic expression is not limited by physical or developmental disabilities. The Tierra del Sol Foundation believe that through cultivation of artistic expression, people with even the severest of disabilities develop creatively and make important contributions to the cultural and economic life of their communities. She coordinates facilitation for her arts projects by directing others to follow through on her selection of different images from found resources, trim them out and then she decides on final placement of the pieces for the works. You’ll see in her artwork beautiful color palettes and expressive compositions that interlace a variety of shapes, colors, words and images. Toni’s extremely successful career in the arts includes her work in collage, painting, and ceramics. Toni’s incredible talent and tireless efforts to explore her art has led her to join in many collaborations with a variety of professional artists who are deeply inspired by working with an artist of her caliber. Her work is a kind of visual poetry that reaches out to an appreciative community.

Toni has a variety of methods of working. Sometimes she’ll choose from a selection of cards, magazine images, colors swatches or fabrics. She decides how that will come together and the artist facilitator simply supports her choice making. Toni is absolutely clear on when the work is finished. She is an exacting artist and a great talent, she’s very clear on what she wants and doesn’t in her artwork. She is amazingly flexible by working with different artist facilitators and she brings out the best in their supports. She doesn’t have just one way of working she seems to enjoy working with different people for different projects.
