Sonia Sleeger

My name is Sonia Sleeger and I’m a self-taught Abstract Artist residing in Southern California. I love working with Acrylics, Alcohol Inks, Oils and Oil Pastels to create a unique style of Contemporary Art on canvas and paper. 

My creativity was nurtured through an 11 year journey as a caregiver for an aunt with Alzheimer's. I needed to find a way of embracing this Labor of Love. The Elements of Design play an important role in my painting process. I realized that  ‘art as therapy’ was a way to express my emotions with colors and shapes.

The subsequent inspiration and joy in painting that evolved reminded me of the incredible pleasure I experienced the very first moment I put paint on the canvas. Being able to create something from a single thought is a glorious thing! Abstraction, my favorite style of art creation, was fashioned into my natural painting expression.

I enjoy the visual rewards derived from abstraction and I’m always excited with the results. I’m confident I’ll never stop learning. I enjoy expanding my creativity from workshops and classes and reading about innovative art techniques. In addition, viewing art in our local galleries and beyond, ultimately contributes to my success.

I have been Married to my husband for twenty-five years with two beautiful children. I was born and raised in Walnut and am currently, living in Norco, California.
