Ellen Schultz
Claremont resident, Ellen Schultz, has been painting since 2011. Ellen admits she has always had an artistic flair in fashion, style and decorating, along with a love of artwork by classical masters as well as unknown artists. For decades, she has frequented the Huntington Library and Gardens, Norton Simon Museum, Laguna Beach Art Festival and Sawdust Festival, and various art galleries both small and large in the greater So. California area, or when traveling most anywhere.
She began taking classes at the local, private studio of an accomplished and widely known artist, where she discovered her enthusiasm for painting. In recent years, Ellen would consider herself to be self-taught exploring her own sense of style and finding enjoyment as the greatest benefit in painting. Ellen’s work can best be described as “stylistic realism”. Through the use of acrylics on canvas, she endeavors to realistically duplicate the landscape, still life, or photograph she uses as “seed material” attempting to draw the viewer into the setting. “Painting brings me such joy; I’m delighted to have found this personal artistic expression in myself and to share it in a lasting way on canvas. “I wish to convey to the viewer the sense of calm, peace and renewal I receive when I create my art.” Another artistic outlet she honed well during her professional (non-art) career was writing prose and she continues to collect quotes and sayings meaningful to her.
In 2017, Ellen was commissioned by City of Hope to create ten original paintings, which have been incorporated into online teaching materials for palliative care professionals.
She was invited in 2018 and 2019 to exhibit and sell her art at the ever-popular annual April Claremont event, The Taste of Claremont. And in August 2018, she was a featured artist at the 2nd Story Gallery in the historic Walker House, San Dimas, CA.
From August 2020 through January 2021, through Chaffey Community Museum of Art (CCMA) in association with Ontario International Airport, her artwork was selected for an exhibit entitled Art at the Airport. Occasionally, she does live portrait modeling at CCMA for a very talented group of artists. Sit very still! Those artists have displayed their work here and there locally, so you may have seen “Ellen”.
Ellen is a member and exhibitor in Pomona Valley Art Association’s Gallery SOHO, a member of Associated Artists of the Inland Empire (AAIE), and a member of the Chaffey Community Museum of Art (CCMA) in addition to showing her work through local venues.
